Growing up in 80's Central California, I was raised in a diverse community.
I was exposed to all sorts of music that I still enjoy listening to today. The majority of my family lives across the country
so we often traveled by vehicle every summer and holiday season to visit our relatives. What I mostly remember about those
road trips was the music my parents listened to. Frankie Beverly, Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson,
Prince, and the list goes on. So Disco, Funk, and R&B genres were my original favorites. The mid 80's was a period when
my appreciation for music expanded. Many of my friends would listen to Rock N Roll Bands like Def Lepard, Quiet Riot, Journey,
and Van Halen. My older friends would listen to Rap and Hip Hop artists like Whodini, Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Big Daddy Kane.
I joined the band at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School where I learned to play all brass instruments. That experience
began my love for jazz music and led me to Hanford High Band, Langston University Marching Band and Jazz Band. In 1994 while
I was in college, I got my first opportunity to DJ at a club near my campus. 2Pac, Biggie, and the slow R&B grooves were
in at the time. Being my own worst critic, I thought I did terrible. I was invited back the following week and haven't stopped
since.
After 30 years
of playing music at schools, clubs, radio stations, bars, churches, and other venues, my appreciation for music is greater
than ever. Music brings back memories (good and bad) and provides a timeline for our lives. When I cater your event, I want
to provide that good memorable moment for you and all of your guests.
